Metallica Joined by Lou Reed Onstage, Play Another Unheard ‘Death Magnetic’ Song
Last night (Dec. 7), during their second of four shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco, Calif., Metallica performed yet another unreleased track from the ‘Death Magnetic’ sessions titled ‘Just a Bullet Away.’
The intimate 30th anniversary shows are proving to be the gift that keeps on giving. The first night the band debuted the song ‘Hate Train' from the same sessions. The newly released songs have been coined 'Beyond Magnetic.'
The band commented during their set on how excited they were to be bringing the lost songs back to life four years later. Overnight, a rough-mix version of the recording was emailed to Metallica fan club members and now you can listen to it below.
Online the band stated, ‘Just a Bullet Away’ in particular, saying, “This is the unpolished version of the song ... the original rough mix from March of 2008 in its rawest, untouched form."
Meanwhile, the show itself featured a number of guests, including Lou Reed, who joined the band for two 'Lulu' songs and a Velvet Underground tune. Also joining Metallica onstage were Kid Rock, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, former 'Tallica bassist Jason Newsted and others.
With two more shows left to go, what will Metallica offer up next? Hopefully, a few more rediscovered tunes and some more guest appearances!
