Metallica’s Orion Festival to Include Drummer Lars Ulrich’s ‘Hit the Lights’ Film Attraction

Lars Ulrich of Metallica
Mary Ouellette,

As Metallica have continued to announce additional attractions to their Orion Music + More Festival, the two-day event has become increasingly personal for the band. Although many will attend the festivities for the music, they’ll also be able to check out James Hetfield‘s car show, Kirk Hammett‘s horror museum, and now, Lars Ulrich‘s mini film festival.

Ulrich’s ‘Hit the Lights’ film tent is set to bring yet another passion to the diverse Orion fest, representing the drummer’s passion for the silver screen. “As you know … James is bringing cars,” begins Ulrich. “Kirk is bringing, you know what’s he bringing? He’s bringing horror stuff, and the boys are going surfing and all kinds of stuff. My big passion, my big thing away from music is film, so I thought what better thing to bring to the Orion Festival than a little film culture. We’ll turn around, we’ll talk film, we’ll get to know each other.”

As well as including ‘Before the Wall,’ which was made by the drummer’s father, HBO film ‘Hemingway and Gellhorn,’ Ulrich will host the American premiere of the documentary film ‘Mission to Lars.’ The movie showcases the life of Tom Spicer, who suffers from Fragile X Syndrome, which is a form of autism. Although learning impaired, Spicer gathers much strength from Metallica’s music and more specifically, the drumming of Lars Ulrich.

Ulrich will also be bringing in director Derek Cianfrance, who directed one of the drummer’s favorite films, ‘Blue Valentine,’ for an in-depth discussion of the flick.

The Orion Music + More Festival will make its first ever run in Atlantic City, N.J., on June 23 and 24.
