The legendary Glastonbury Festival made an interesting decision for their 2014 event, recruiting Metallica to headline one of the event's three dates. Metallica's addition is surprising because the British fest focuses heavily on indie rock, pop, rap, dance and world music, among other non-metal genres. In reaction to Metallica's inclusion, hipster favorites Mogwai have taken some jabs at metal's biggest band, calling the drumming of Lars Ulrich "on the "terrible."

Just to give you a scope of what the 2014 Glastonbury Festival is offering this year, Arcade Fire, the Black Keys, Jack White, De La Soul, Skrillex and Dolly Parton are just a small sampling of the multi-genre event's lineup. Though the festival is extremely diverse, out of the hundreds of acts set to perform, Metallica is the only metal band on the bill.

Despite being somewhat of a stand-alone band for Glastonbury, Metallica will surely lure in a massive crowd. Unfortunately for Mogwai, they have been booked to play a separate stage at the same time Metallica are scheduled to perform. Perhaps through frustration, Mogwai had some tough words to share about the metal icons.

"I can't wait to hear that guy [Lars Ulrich] play the drums again -- unbelievably bad," Mogwai multi-instrumentalist Barry Burns tells Gigwise. "He's terrible."

Singer Stuart Braitwaite adds, "I just can't wait until we go all quiet and you can hear 'Enter Sandman' in the background, because we're on at the same time. I don't really see the fuss. They're a pretty big rock band and it's a pretty big rock festival. It would be good if they could go back in time to 1989. Metallica at Glastonbury in 1989."

When Gigwise mentioned that Metallica's booking has been seen as controversial by some, drummer Martin Bulloch responded, "Because they're sh-te."

In an exclusive interview with the Guardian, Lars Ulrich tossed out the idea of opening their Glastonbury set with a cover of Oasis' 'Wonderwall.' "Jay-Z came out and played 'Wonderwall,' right?" Ulrich asks. "So maybe we gotta go out and do our rendition of 'Wonderwall.' We’ll start with 'Wonderwall' and we’ll take it from there."

Mogwai released their eighth studio album, 'Rave Tapes,' earlier this year.
