Motorhead’s Lemmy Says He’s OK Healthwise, But Mikkey Dee Urges Him to ‘Take Care of Yourself’

Motorhead Music

The release of a new album is always a time of excitement for a band’s fans. In Motorhead‘s case, that’s especially true with their latest effort ‘Aftershock,’ because of Lemmy Kilmister’s health issues. Fans are happy not just because the album’s release is imminent (Oct. 22), but also because the legendary frontman is still ticking after taking a licking this year.

In a new interview with Classic Rock magazine, Lemmy downplays the health scares, which included canceled European concerts, cutting their Wacken set short and heart problems. “It was nothing; I’m over it,” Lemmy says.

His bandmates are bit more concerned. Drummer Mikkey Dee told Classic Rock, “I think after all he’s been through, I’d say this: ‘Lem, when are you going to get sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? It’s time you started to take care of yourself.’”

But like all rebellious rockers, Lemmy says he doesn’t like people telling him what to do, even if they might be right. And he leaves no doubt he’ll be back on stage soon. “I can still stand at that mic every night and play my songs,” he declares. “I’m getting better. By the time the tour comes around I’ll be ready.”

Motorhead’s next tour is less than a month away. They’ll embark on a European trek beginning Nov. 7 in Zurich, and wrapping it up Dec. 10 in Helsinki.

If you want to hear a new song from ‘Aftershock,’ you’re in luck. Loudwire has the exclusive premiere of the track ‘Queen of the Damned.’ Click below to listen:
