Canada's got a new power couple! People reports that Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger is now engaged to pop star Avril Lavigne. The couple have been dating around six months, having first gotten together when Kroeger was called in to co-write a song for Lavigne's next record.

A photo from the studio showed the pair looking rather chummy earlier this year. A friend of Lavigne's told the magazine, "A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together." Kroeger was initially supposed to co-write only one track, but eventually stuck around to pen several songs with Lavigne after things started clicking.

Kroeger reportedly popped the question on Aug. 8, presenting Lavigne with a 14-carat diamond. A family source told the magazine, "He makes her so happy. Both of their families could not be more excited."

Lavigne was previously married to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley, but the couple split in 2009. She had also dated Brody Jenner before starting her romance with Kroeger. This will be the Nickelback singer's first marriage. The vocalist, however, is currently involved in divorce proceedings with his former common-law partner Marianna Goriuk. The couple lived together for seven years before they split.

Nickelback has spent a good portion of the year on tour, and they just released a new single, 'Trying Not to Love You.' The group just issued a new video for the track starring Jason Alexander and Brooke Burns.
