Nickelback are readying the release of Feed the Machine, their ninth studio album and successor to 2014's No Fixed Address. With the title track already out, the band have offered a look at the more emotional side of the album with the lyric video for "Song on Fire."

This song counters the heaviness of "Feed the Machine," taking more of a ballad approach. A gentle, somber guitar melody is set against a light beat to open the song and Chad Kroeger eases into it with his familiar gritty croon. There's a sense of despair and hopelessness as the frontman continues, "The next line I write down / And there's a tear that falls between the pages" later singing "I write lines down then rip them up / Describing love can't be this tough."

"Song on Fire" toys with emotions, taking listeners from bleak lows to empowering highs by the time the chorus arrives and will undoubtedly be a new live favorite, calling for lighters (and phones) to be held in the air, illuminating the sea of fans packed into arenas and outdoor venues.

Feed the Machine will be out June 16 through BMG and pre-orders can be placed at this location.

Nickelback will be on tour all summer starting June 23 and wrapping it all up over three months later on Oct. 1. The run will feature short breaks along the way with support coming from Daughtry and Shaman’s Harvest with Cheap Trick replacing Daughtry on the final five dates.
