Nightwish rocked the house at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, Jan. 21., with support from Amorphous and Dommin.

Nightwish kicked off the ‘Imaginaerum’ World Tour in front of a crowd of over 4,000 people. The Finnish band played a wide variety of songs and started the show off with the first single, ‘Storytime,’ off of their latest album ‘Imaginaerum.’

They also performed other new songs such as their jazzy tune ‘Slow Love Slow,’ during which songstress Annette Olzon donned a sleek 1940’s looking black, feathery fedora, but then sped things up with ‘I Want My Tears Back.’ Nightwish also performed fan favorites such as ‘Nemo,’ ‘Wish I Had an Angel,’ ‘The Islander’ and many others.

The vigorous set included lots of pyro, hair flying from keyboardist Tuomas Halopainen and some wicked solos from axeman Empuu Vuorinen. Throughout the gig, Olzon exuded elegance as her soaring vocals and charisma made the set all the more enjoyable.

Fellow Finnish metallers Amorphis hit the stage with a forceful performance. Frontman Tomi Joutsen’s headbanging could be a little dangerous as he whipped his lengthy dreads around. Joutsen had full command of the stage and the band as a whole kept the energy of the crowd elevated.

The native West Coasters of Dommin started off the night with a great, but very short set which included tracks from their debut full length studio album ‘Love Is Gone.’
