Ronnie James Dio Limited Edition ‘Holy Diver’ Guitar To Be Released
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of Dio‘s classic debut album ‘Holy Diver,’ a limited edition ASG guitar has been created. Ronnie James Dio’s widow Wendy talks about the guitar in the new video above.
There will only be 30 of these special guitars built, with a solid mahogany body, which will have artwork from the ‘Holy Diver’ album. Pre-sale for the guitars will begin on July 10, which would have been Ronnie’s 71st birthday.
In other Dio news, the band’s 1986 concert ‘Finding the Sacred Heart: Live In Philly 1986′ was recently reissued on DVD and Blu-ray. Their 2000 album ‘Magica’ is set for a deluxe reissue on June 25. In addition to a remastered version of the album, there will be a second disc with ‘The Magica Story’ (narrated by Ronnie James Dio).
It also includes “Annica,” which was only available as a Japanese bonus track along with “Electra” (which was planned for ‘Magica 2 and 3′) and six, never before released live tracks from 2000/2001.
In a recent interview, Dio guitarist and songwriter Craig Goldy talked about other unreleased Dio material. “There was a point in Ronnie’s struggle that the doctor had given him a clean bill of health and said he could do anything he wanted,” Goldy recalls. “His wife Wendy asked him what he wanted to do, and he said, ‘Write with Craig.’ We started writing for ‘Magica 2 and 3.’ There is a song nearly completed. There’s a vocal bridge that he was supposed to sing, but never got a chance to finish.”
“We’ll keep his memory alive by having only his closest friends or bandmates come in and finish it,” Goldy continues. “Since there was no other singer, obviously, it would be done by one of his closest friends or somebody he most admired that would finish that song. Then we would release it at some point. That’s entirely up to Wendy.”
