Sad news from the world of wrestling, as the legendary 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper has died at the age of 61. According to TMZ, he suffered a cardiac arrest in his sleep on Thursday night (July 30) but was discovered today (July 31).

Piper has been on the wrestling scene for more than 40 years, starting out in smaller leagues in the 1970s before joining the WWF (now WWE) in 1984. Piper participated in 'Wrestlemania I' back in 1985 and was famous for his own interview segment 'Piper's Pit' during WWF broadcasts. He was elected into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.

News of Piper's death has impacted the rock and metal world, as such rockers as Slipknot's Corey Taylor, former My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way and Fozzy frontman / wrestling superstar Chris Jericho have expressed their sadness via Twitter. See their tributes below:
