Sex Pistols / PiL legend John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) just went on British TV to talk about a bunch of different issues. Some that came up include Brexit and Donald Trump, both of which Lydon supports to some degree.

The Sex Pistols were instrumental in bringing politics into the realm of punk rock. Whether it be “God Save the Queen” or “Anarchy in the U.K.”, Johnny Rotten used his lyrics to attack the establishment. His tunes are still important enough 40 years later that he’s constantly asked for his opinion on political issues, which he happily gave to Good Morning Britain earlier today (March 27).

“Where do I stand on Brexit? Well, here it goes: The working class have spoke, and I’m one of them, and I’m with them,” Lydon said. “And there it is.”

John Lydon is actually an American citizen as well, having acquired his citizenship just a few years ago. Lydon actually credited Barack Obama for his decision to become a Yank, telling Noisey, “America has the potential to be a nation that actually cares for its afflicted and wounded and ill and disenfranchised. That’s what Obamacare has brought into the agenda. So it was Obama that changed my mind [about becoming a U.S. citizen]. No matter how insanely the Republicans yak on about it, I don’t see how they can take that back. And you know what? I can vote now.”

However, Lydon isn’t rushing to make an anti-Trump attack, although he did label Trump as racist and sexist in a 2015 interview with Loudwire. “What I dislike is the left-wing media in America are trying to smear the bloke as a racist, and that’s completely not true,” Lydon said. “There’s many, many problems with him as a human being, but he’s not that, and there just might be a chance that something good will come out of that situation, because he terrifies politicians and this is joy to behold to me.” Johnny even considers Trump to be a “possible friend.”
