‘Slipknot for Saturday Night Live’ Petition Gains Support From Corey Taylor + Shawn Crahan
In 2011, a Facebook page was launched petitioning ‘Saturday Night Live’ to bring in Slipknot as a musical guest. It’s hard to believe that the metal phenoms have never graced the ‘SNL’ stage, as they’ve brought the hate to ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’ in the past, along with multiple appearances on ‘Conan’ and ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
You may remember a Facebook group titled ‘Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!’ Although it was simple online petition, the page gathered a half million supporters, and eventually led to Betty White snagging the precious hosting gig. The ‘Slipknot for Saturday Night Live‘ petition has acquired nearly 9,000 likes as of this posting, but it’s definitely not enough. Thus, we invite Slipknot fans to ‘Like’ the page, because believe it or not, these petitions actually work when enough people get behind them.
‘Slipknot For Saturday Night Live’ founder Chad Cheifer recently wrote us, explaining the inception of his petition, why ‘SNL’ needs a band like Slipknot to tear apart the television stage and how singer Corey Taylor, percussionist Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan and Roadrunner Records have all endorsed the petition:
It was October 2006 when I first saw the video for “Before I Forget”. I knew very early on there was something different, something unique about this band that I couldn’t even put into words how I felt. I remember my older brother had the Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses album, so decided to listen to the whole thing for the first time myself. From that moment on, I found myself indulged in the world that is Slipknot. I can listen to any Slipknot song a thousand times, and always hear something different that I didn’t hear before. To me, Slipknot is not just a music, but a way of life.
A couple of years later in 2011, I was watching a Youtube video of Clown and Chris of Slipknot being interviewed, and Clown said that performing on Saturday Night Live is one of the only goals the band hasn’t accomplished yet. I immediately thought of the old Betty White Facebook campaign that got her to host SNL. So I thought to myself, “How awesome would it be to have Slipknot on SNL? That would be the coolest thing ever!” I then created a campaign dedicated to getting Slipknot on Saturday Night Live. This would be the first Facebook campaign to get a musical guest on SNL. This would also shed light on the metal genre in a big way, and give credit to all of the amazing music and talented musicians that have been pushed aside by the mainstream. I’m a big SNL fan and love watching the show, but their choices of musical guests the past couple of years seem to be very redundant. It seems as if SNL has been playing it safe and having the “flavor of the week” perform on the show. It would be nice to see more diversity in their choice of musical guests. I know that Slipknot would put on one of the most electrifying and exciting performances the show has ever seen. They would be one of the all-time greatest bands to rock the SNL stage. Period.
About six months after I started the campaign, it came to my surprise that Clown of Slipknot actually joined the campaign on his Facebook page. Clown believed in this campaign during its early stages, and he even commented on one of my posts telling me, “It’s still one goal and dream to accomplish. I would watch it with my parents in the 80’s.” This was the first big step for the campaign, and his endorsement is what helped build the thousands that have been joining the cause. Until this day, Slipknot for SNL is the only fan created Facebook page he has joined.
A few months later, I reached out to Roadrunner Records and they immediately expressed interest in the campaign. They were so interested that they advertised my campaign the same day they heard about it. They even plugged my campaign a second time, which resulted in even more great feedback and new fans joining the campaign.
Even Corey Taylor endorsed Slipknot for SNL on his Twitter account by advertising my campaign for all of his Twitter followers to see. He had immediate interest in the campaign, and with his support, this dream is one step closer to becoming reality.
By Loudwire, Roadrunner Records, Corey Taylor, and Clown all endorsing Slipknot for SNL, that proves that we are all in this together. Everybody can be apart of the Slipknot family, and any voice can be heard, no matter how far away it may be. Getting support from all of them proves that you should never give up on a dream, no matter how big it may be.
It’s been a great experience thus far bringing together maggots from everywhere. I’ve created a community of Slipknot and SNL fans all cheering for the same cause and it’s been truly gratifying watching the campaign grow and getting the chance to communicate with awesome people.
Slipknot gave me something to believe in, and by having them on one of televisions biggest stages, they might just give someone else something to believe in. That is what this whole campaign is about. It’s a true testament to the band, the fans, and at the same time deliver a helping hand.

Behind those masks and roaring sound is an emotional, melodic masterpiece that needs to be heard.
If they have already performed on Jay Leno once, Jimmy Kimmel twice, and Conan O’Brien three times, than why not Saturday Night Live?
