Staind vocalist Aaron Lewis will host a charity golf tournament in Bernardson, Mass., on Saturday, Aug. 11. The inaugural Aaron Lewis Invitational Charity Golf Tournament will be held at the Crumpin-Fox Golf Club. Lewis and his wife Vanessa started the It Takes a Community Foundation, and proceeds from this tournament will benefit the R.H. Conwell Community Education Center in Worthington, Mass.

“Our philosophy at It Takes a Community Foundation is that it takes a community to sustain a community,” says Lewis. “With diminishing public services and towns in crisis, we are looking for ways to support local groups that strengthen, engage and enrich the communities near our home in western Massachusetts.”

“The R.H. Conwell Community Education Center is certainly one of them. We fought against the school’s closing two years ago, when the state’s misappropriation of funds would have forced the kids from Worthington and the surrounding areas to bus one hour each way to school and back. The community pulled together to reopen the school but it takes donations, corporate sponsors, grants and multiple fundraisers such as this one to keep the doors open for these kids.”

Before the tournament, there will be a $50,000 shootout contest and putting contest. After the golfers finish their round there will be a cocktail hour and silent auction followed by a dinner and the awards presentation. The evening will be capped off with a live acoustic performance by Lewis.

Lewis’ band Staind recently released ‘Live From Mohegan Sun,’ their first live album.  A DVD/Blu-ray edition will be in stores on Aug. 14. Staind will also be playing the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival that kicks off Aug. 17.

After that tour, Lewis recently announced Staind will go on hiatus, but that they are not breaking up.  Lewis has also established a country career, with his album ‘The Road’ cracking the chart in that genre.
