Iron Maiden founder Steve Harris has some of the busiest fingers in the business. His trademark galloping rhythm is not his only claim to fame, delivering intricate bass lines and even utilizing power chords at times by brushing the strings with a downstroke of his hand. He is one of the band’s main songwriters, calling ‘The Trooper’ and ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’ all his own. Harris’ is a menace on stage, engaging fans by putting his foot on the monitor and pretending to gun them down with his bass.

While Steve Harris helped define traditional metal, Helloween’s Markus Grosskopf assisted in paving the way for the birth of power metal. His criminally underrated playing is often over-shadowed by other members of the band, but his chops deserve just as much recognition. Grosskopf’s busy bass runs are truly a treat as he often breaks away from the main rhythm to perform fills that compliment the guitars.
