Stone Sour have reportedly been at work on a new studio album as fans await the successor to The House of Gold & Bones double album that saw separate releases in late 2012 and early 2013. Not many details have come to light until now as frontman Corey Taylor has confirmed it will be titled Hydrograd.

The singer revealed the news at NAMM while speaking with Rock Cellar (video below), sharing some details about the recording process. “We are doing everything old school,” Taylor began. “We’re recording it live and then layering stuff on top of it. We are doing a song a day, and we’ve already done nine songs; we’re about halfway done. And, yeah, it is incredible; it’s the best stuff we’ve ever written.”

The recording is taking place at Sphere Studios in North Hollywood, Calif. with producer Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Steel Panther) and is expected to arrive in the summer through Roadrunner Records.

When we spoke with drummer Roy Mayorga, he discussed the direction of the album, stating, “Honestly, it hasn’t really been a thought out process on what we’re going to come out with and what we’re going to sound like, but it has just come together very organic, very naturally. It’s not like this or like that, it’s a whole new animal now.”

While Stone Sour are in the studio now, writing for the new Slipknot will commence next month. In November, percussionist Clown stated he and guitarist Jim Root would team up in February to kickstart the process, but did not give any timetable as to when fans should expect a new slab of metal from the masked troupe.
