Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley: ‘I Will Be Better Soon and Back Out Onstage Before You Know It’
Due to his struggles with alcoholism, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has gone through a hellish time. The musician was recently released from hospital after his liver and kidneys collapsed on him, and looked incredibly frail walking around Los Angeles earlier this month. However, Whibley has begun to chronicle his journey back to good health.
On May 16, the Sum 41 frontman posted a shocking statement detailing his month-long stay in the hospital. Whibley was rushed to the ER after collapsing at home, and due to the seriousness of his condition, was put into medical sedation for a full week. Furthermore, Whibley wrote, "If I have one drink the docs say I will die."
Even though it's only been a short while since Whibley's status was made public, he's now on the way back to health and has decided to let fans in on the process. On his personal website, Whibley updated fans on his condition early in the morning on May 24:
hey everyone, i just wanted to thank you all so much for sending gifts and all of the compassion and support you have shown me. it really means a lot to me in this time of recovery. i will be better soon and back out on stage before you know it.
see you all soon, deryck whibley
A photo Whibley uploaded still shows the frontman in a frail state, but he's looking a bit better than the photo TMZ posted shortly after his release from the hospital.
Stay healthy, Deryck. We hope to see you back on stage soon!
