System of a Down and Deftones have announced dates for a joint North American summer tour that is sure to be one of the hottest tickets in 2012. The trek will hit East Coast and Midwest cities in August, with SOAD headlining and Deftones providing direct support.

Since reuniting after a lengthy hiatus, System of a Down have played West Coast dates, as well as shows in Europe and Australia. Now, the band will be taking their dynamic live show to the East Coast and Midwest for a brief jaunt in August.

The trek kicks off Aug. 2 in Camden, N.J., and is currently scheduled through an Aug. 15 show in Chicago. The dates include two previously announced gigs at the Heavy MTL and Heavy T.O. festivals in Canada.

While SOAD have not revealed any definitive plans for a new album, drummer John Dolmayan said in the fall that a new System album was "going to happen." Meanwhile, SOAD singer Serj Tankian recently announced plans to release his third solo album, 'Harakiri,' this summer.

As for Deftones, the band is currently in the studio working on their next album. "I know everybody says this, but I believe this is the best record we’ve made," declared singer Chino Moreno.
