Sammy Hagar and Journey guitarist Neal Schon have a long history that includes the '80s era outfit HSAS. After venturing off with their own careers over the years, the pair has come back together to revive HSAS with former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Anthony and Smith also play with Hagar in his current band Chickenfoot.
It’s another solid week for new rock releases on the Billboard 200 albums chart. ‘Chickenfoot III’, the latest from super group Chickenfoot debuted at No. 9 selling 42,000 copies. Their previously released self-titled album in 2009 rocked the charts at No. 4 with 52,000 units sold so the ‘Foot has some catching up to do. But with the combined star force of Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Chad Smith, this release has some staying power.
Supergroup Chickenfoot are set to release their new album ‘Chickenfoot III’ on Sept. 27. On that very same day, the band -- singer Sammy Hagar, guitar guru Joe Satriani, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and touring drummer Kenny Aronoff -- is inviting fans to participate in a very special free live concert webcast at 6PM PT.
Not surprisingly, Chickenfoot's video for their new single 'Big Foot' features a whole mess of chickens. The vid is populated by both real, live chickens and a grown man wearing a chicken costume. However, Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Chad Smith and Joe Satriani don't dress up as foul. They are just performing the song while the chicken suit wearing man heads out on a mission.
Chad Smith sure is one busy guy. The Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer recently has been moonlighting with Chickenfoot -- his supergroup with former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, plus guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani -- but the upcoming release of a new Chili Peppers album means he needs to take a break from the ‘Foot.
