Philip Anselmo tells Loudwire why Dimebag Darrell was the greatest metal guitarist.
For music fans looking for a good cause to get behind, the annual ‘Ride for Dime’ event is just around the corner scheduled for Aug. 16 and 17 in Texas. With events scheduled in both Fort Worth and Dallas, friends, fans and family members will all join forces to remember Pantera guitarist “Dimebag" Darrell Abbott with a motorcycle ride followed by two nights of great music.
It's finally here! After starting with 32 guitarists nearly a month ago, we're down to just two in our Greatest Metal Guitarist final round!
Late Pantera guitarist 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott claims yet another victory in our Greatest Metal Guitarist competition over one of his best friends, Zakk Wylde. Dime has been an early favorite since the beginning, defeating Dillinger Escape Plan shredder Ben Weinman and Korn's Brian 'Head' Welch before moving on against Wylde. The crunch-master moves on to the Semifinals.
Here's an interesting matchup. We've got two of modern metal's most innovative axe-slingers. Pantera's 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott created groove-laden thrash riffs which haven't aged a day since his band took over the world with classic albums such as 'Cowboys From Hell' and 'Vulgar Display of Power.' The crunch of Dime's guitar mixed with his fluid shredding surely makes him one of metal's greatest guitarists, and his legacy continues to grow after his tragic death.
Despite the tragic death of shredder 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott and the hostility held between certain members of the great Pantera, there has been rumblings of a possible reunion of the band for the past few years. Pantera / Hellyeah drummer Vinnie Paul hasn't been one to pioneer any sort of reunion, and while paying tribute to late Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman along with his late brother Dimebag, the drummer addressed the Pantera situation with a simple bat-away.
