Did you know that Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd nearly became a member of Nirvana? Before either Soundgarden or Nirvana became grunge legends, Shepherd almost became Nirvana's second guitarist, but the band chose instead to remain a three-piece until the addition of Germs strummer Pat Smear.
Just a few years ago, the idea of seeing the almighty Soundgarden return to the stage seemed like nothing more than a work of fan fiction. However, after a 16-year stretch between discs and a decade apart, the collective members of Soundgarden launched a comeback releasing their latest offering ‘King Animal’ in November of 2012.
Last fall, Soundgarden played one of their more spirited shows in Los Angeles during the group's recent 'King Animal' trek, and luckily, the cameras were there to catch it. The band's blistering set will appear on the upcoming season of the long-running series, 'Live From the Artists Den.'
Legendary indie-rock label Sub Pop will be staging their 25th anniversary show, dubbed the 'Silver Jubilee,' on July 13 in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood and some of the acts that have helped grow the label have signed on to take part. In a new teaser video, Soundgarden's Kim Thayil, Mudhoney's Mark Arm, TAD's Tad Doyle and veteran producer Jack Endino humorously reveal the event's lineup.
Soundgarden are getting in on the Record Store Day (April 20) fun by releasing a limited edition vinyl featuring their 'King Animal' demos. This will be the first time these recordings have been available together on one release and will give listeners a peek at how some of the material from their recent album sounded early on.
