Update: Tool guitarist Adam Jones has publicly claimed that his comment about the band's new record being done was simply a joke:
It's been almost eight full years since Tool gifted fans with '10,000 Days' back in 2006, and ever since, followers of the massively successful band have been praying for a new record. There have been tons of small updates on the progress of Tool's fifth full-length album in the past couple of years, but in a new report, a reliable source has written that Tool may be "100 percent done" with the record.
Experimentation is the theme of this battle. Which of these discs will move on in our March Metal Madness search for the best metal album of the 21st century? When it comes to critical praise and undisputed originality, these two bands are ranked in the elite. Ahead of their time, compositionally complex and deeply imaginative, no acts on Earth sound quite like either of these sonic blueprinters.
Last month, Tool announced a handful of West Coast tour dates, but they have now added several more concerts to the trek (all dates below). The tour still launches March 4 in Spokane, Wash., and will now go through March 27, wrapping up in Phoenix, Ariz.
There's still no word on when a new Tool album will arrive, but fans of the band can take comfort in knowing that they'll be returning to the road soon. The group has just revealed a five-date West Coast swing that will get the band back into the groove this March.
Maynard James Keenan once said, "F--- your tattoos," in a little song called 'Ænima,' but the vocalist hasn't let that statement stop him from getting some ink of his own. Maynard has sported a few tats for a while now, but the musician / cult leader has just gotten himself an entire half-sleeve on his right arm.
Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan has always managed to see a bigger picture than just music, occasionally dabbling in acting and keeping a keen eye on the visual aspects of his bands' careers. With that in mind, the A.V. Club spoke with Keenan and asked him to mock up a faux film festival that would relate to his artistic output.
It has been seven years since Tool last gave us their last album, ‘10,000 Days,' which fans are hoping is not an indicator of how long they will have to wait before another one hits the shelves. There have been sporadic updates from members and the band's website and now singer Maynard James Keenan has given an update on the progress from where he stands.
