Brace yourself for a bit of a shock, as we bring you some new music from The Night Flight Orchestra, the band featuring Soilwork‘s singer Bjorn Strid and guitarist David Andersson as well as Arch Enemy‘s bassist Sharlee D’Angelo. The group is exclusively premiering their new video for “Something Mysterious” right here at Loudwire.
And while you may be expecting something highly metallic from the group, their sound is more rooted in straight ahead classic rock. Vocalist Bjorn Strid states with a laugh, “Most other classic rock bands sound like weed or LSD — we sound like cocaine.” The group is rounded out by keyboardist Richard Larsson, drummer Jonas Källsbäck and guitarist/percussionist Sebastian Forslund.
Embracing that classic vibe, The Night Flight Orchestra deliver a truly retro feeling clip from director Rene U. Valdes. Rest assured, you haven’t just uncovered a VCR dub from your parents’ stash of ’80s music videos, but a very well done video replicating the look and vibe of early ’80s videos complete with wipes, blocky digital lettering and other seemingly dated effects.
The video centers on a platinum blonde beauty driving a fast car en route to a clandestine meeting during a night she’ll never forget. As she rolls through town top down with her Corey Hart sunglasses at night, she eventually arrives at a club where sparks fly after some suggestive looks with one of the patrons.
Guitarist David Andersson says, “Almost everyone, no matter who they are, have experienced one, or perhaps even a few, epic nights in their lives. That night when you met the love of your life, and you couldn’t go to sleep because your heart was beating too fast out of pure excitement and joy. That night when you lost the love of your life. The night when you thought that no matter what happens next, I’ll remember this night for the rest of my life. ‘Something Mysterious’ is a song about standing at that crossroads, gathering the courage to take that plunge into the unknown, knowing your life will never be the same again.”
“Something Mysterious” can be found on The Night Flight Orchestra’s new album Amber Galactic, which arrives in stores today (May 19) via Nuclear Blast. The album is available as a limited edition digipak CD with an alternate cover, in 2LP vinyl format and as a digital download and stream via all known platforms.
