Thirty Seconds to Mars Cover Rihanna Hit ‘Stay’

We know Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto can belt his way through a rock song, but what about a chart-topping ballad originally sung by one of pop music’s biggest stars?

Leto recently had a chance to show off his range while appearing on the BBC Radio 1 ‘Live Lounge’ program, which typically allows artists the opportunity to deliver a cover song during their appearance. After 30STM performed their own song ‘Do or Die,’ they likely threw listeners for a loop when they took on Rihanna‘s pop ballad ‘Stay’ (watch above).

With sparse backing on drums and piano, the real star of this performance was Leto who was able to delve the depths of his voice for the requisite soul and emotion the song requires. To view more of the ‘Live Lounge’ session, click here.

Thirty Seconds to Mars are making their way back from the U.K. for more North American touring. The band begin their run tomorrow (Sept. 20) in San Diego, with shows booked stateside through Oct. 12 in Hollywood, Calif. They’ll spend most of the month of November in Europe before returning home for U.S. dates in late November and December. To see their full itinerary, click here.
