Meshuggah's Tomas Haake battled ex-Suffocation drummer Mike Smith in Round 1 of our Technical Masters Division, and despite Smith's blueprinting of the brutal death metal genre, Haake secured a win. Meshuggah's music has been tagged as "crushing" for many years, and Haake's polyrhythmic pacing vitally contributes to that sentiment. Haake makes his way into Round 2.

It's truly unique when one of the world's most popular bands employs a drummer who is a technical trailblazer. Slipknot's Joey Jordison is one of modern metal drumming's brightest stars, transplanting a blistering death metal technique into a band which has been embraced by the masses. Jordison blew away Nile's George Kollias, a phenomenal player, in Round 1. Now, Jordison meets Haake in Round 2.

Tomas Haake or Joey Jordison? Cast your vote for the Greatest Metal Drummer in the poll below! Voting for this round closes on Monday, Sept. 2 at 11:59PM ET. Fans can vote once per hour, so keep coming back to make sure that your favorite metal musician wins!
