Punk has come a long way since its angry, energetic beginnings in the early '70s. By the late '70s, punk had become a force in music, not only for its hard-edged, quick and to the point style but also for the socio-political lyrics that frequently were present in the genre.

Though punk started off as anti-establishment music with its biggest outlet coming in small, sweaty clubs, over time it has invaded the mainstream and spread its gospel with a killer beat behind it.
