Young metal act Unlocking the Truth have been granted permission by a Manhattan judge on Tuesday (July 22) to sign a multi-year recording contract with Sony Record.

According to the New York Daily News, the court approval allows the band to move forward with recording their first single for The Cherry Group, a division of Sony. The band has chosen a song called ‘Monster’ to be their introduction, with 13-year-old guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse revealing the song was penned about his relationship with his girlfriend. The group’s other two members are 13-year-old bassist Alec Atkins and 12-year-old drummer Jarad Dawkins.

It was recently revealed that the band was offered a potential $1.7 million deal to sign with the label. The two-album deal was broken down to $60,000 for the first album, with the potential for $350,000 spent on the follow-up, with the option for four more discs that could push the total value to the $1.7 million number.

The boys and their parents attended Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday to get permission to sign the deal, as a judge’s approval was needed since they are minors.

The band is working with producer Johnny K (Disturbed, 3 Doors Down) on their new single. There’s also a book and a documentary in the works on the trio, as well. For those interested in picking up the band’s first release, they’ve already launched a PledgeMusic campaign pre-order option.
