Ritchie Blackmore made his return to rock this year, reactivating Rainbow with a brand new lineup. The icon has now concluded the three scheduled performances with the group, closing things out in Birmingham, England last night (June 25) with the addition of two Deep Purple classics to the set.

Rainbow's performance at the Genting Arena saw the group ditch "Sixteenth Century Greensleeves" in favor of two MK III era Purple cuts: the title track off 1974's Burn (video above) as well as "Soldier of Fortune" (video below) from Stormbringer, released in the same year. The two albums were Blackmore's final contributions to Deep Purple before the band reunited in 1984 following an eight year breakup.

The set was lined with other Deep Purple cuts, including one more MK III track, the soulful "Mistreated" and MK II era hits like "Highway Star," "Child in Time," "Smoke on the Water" and more. The Rainbow portion of the 16 song setlist included two non Ronnie James Dio era songs in "Spotlight Kid" and the Russ Ballard cover of "Since You Been Gone," which appeared on 1979's Down to Earth. The Dio-led songs included "Man on the Silver Mountain," the masterful "Stargazer" and more.

Backing Blackmore was Lords of Black singer Ronnie Romero, Stratovarius keyboardist Jens Johansson and Blackmore's Night members Bob Nouveau on bass and David Keith on drums.

With the three Rainbow shows now in the books, the guitar icon will return his focus toward his Renaissance project Blackmore's Night. The group, which features Blackmore's wife Candice Night, was formed in 1997 and has released 10 studio albums, with the latest being 2015's All Our Yesterdays. A handful of dates are set for Europe in July and North America in August. All stops can be seen at the Blackmore's Night website.
