Back in the mid-'80s, the xXx fanzine was a major champion for the burgeoning hardcore and punk scenes, giving a forum and spotlight to a number of underground acts at the time who went on to become icons of the genre. Now, years later, a new book titled xXx Fanzine (1983-1988) Hardcore & Punk in the Eighties is set to hit shelves and there's an accompanying compilation titled Still Having Their Say featuring some of today's acts saluting those who built that '80s scene. We at Loudwire are happy to bring you the exclusive premiere of the Still Having Their Say compilation stream.

xXx's main writer and editor Mike Gitter tells us, "After nearly four years of working on this book, working hand in hand with Chris Wrenn from Bridge Nine, it’s a little unreal to have the 11” x 11”, nearly four-pound finished book in hand! Personally, it brings a lot of things full circle. It also tells a bigger story than just reprinting some pages from a second generation American hardcore zine. In those years I self-published xXx, we saw music in motion. Punks becoming players and songwriters. Sub genres like the metal-punk crossover, youth crew, the rise of indie rock all starting to happen. It was an inspiring time to step from the sidelines."

The Still Having Their Say compilation recently issued Killswitch Engage's Jesse Leach taking on Minor Threat's "Salad Days," but there's so much more to check out. Letlive cover Black Flag's "Fix Me," H20 rock out Dag Nasty's "Safe," Voivod interpret Die Kreuzen's "Man in the Trees," Fu Manchu stir it up with their rendition of Circle Jerks' "When the S--t Hits the Fan" and you'll also hear Riverboat Gamblers, Gallows, American Nightmares, Aeges, Tombs, Walter Schriefels, Shai Hulud, Nomads and many more taking part in this stellar collection.

As for the book, which is being released on Friday (Nov. 10), you can expect 288 pages that document the Boston-based zine's heyday, reproducing numerous interviews and chronicling the punk evolution of the '80s.

In addition, there will be a special xXx Fanzine book release show tonight (Nov. 9) in Somerville, Mass. at the Once Ballroom featuring The Proletariat, Kevin Seconds and more. And there will be an xXx Fanzine book release event taking place this Friday (Nov. 10) at Bridge Nine in Peabody, Mass., where Mike Gitter and Tony Rettman will be in attendance and Kevin Seconds will perform. Get your pre-orders in for the book, the compilation and get a ticket to Friday's book release party all at this location.
