Asking Alexandria ‘Break Down the Walls’ With August Burns Red + More in New York City

This past weekend New York City fans flocked to Times Square for the sold out Asking Alexandria show at Best Buy Theater. The British lads are headlining their ‘Break Down the Walls’ tour in order to promote their latest record from ‘Death to Destiny.’ They were joined by supporting acts August Burns Red, We Came As Romans, Crown the Empire and Born of Osiris.

It’s no secret that Asking Alexandria’s fanbase is massive in the U.S. and it showed as the crowd went wild over their more recent melodic tracks like the set-opening ‘Don’t Pray for Me’ and ‘Run Free.’ They also rocked such other new tunes as ‘Break Down the Walls,’ ‘Killing You,’ ‘Poison’ and ‘The Death of Me,’ with fans really embracing the latter track.

Despite frontman Danny Worsnop sporting a huskier physique since the last time he graced the stage at Best Buy Theater, he sounded impeccable and performed the new songs with feeling and even a tinge of raspy soul added in addition to his heavier vocals. Not only does the band continue to get better sonically but the production of their show amplifies and continues to surprise every time they come to the States.

Asking Alexandria also provided great balance, digging deeper for such ‘Reckless & Relentless’ songs as the title track and ‘To the Stage,’ as well as ‘Breathless’ and ‘Closure.’ By the end of the night, the crowd had not only tested the walls of Best Buy Theater, but the floors and foundation, as their performance came to its culmination with ‘The Final Episode (Let’s Change the Channel)’ off of their debut record ‘Stand Up and Scream.’

Earlier in the night, August Burns Red unleashed a fierce and raw set. There was no controlling frontman Jake Luhrs who can swing a wired microphone like no one else. From the intensity of August Burns Red’s set one may have thought that they were the headlining band. While aggressive, the band is technical and there’s a lot of melody to the music itself. Make no mistake, these guys are ruthlessly entertaining and it will be no surprise if they headline Best Buy Theater soon enough.

We Came As Romans provided an entertaining set as well. Both vocalists David Stephens and Kyle Pavone managed to make their way into the crowd. Before the show Loudwire got the chance to speak with August Burns Red drummer Matt Grenier who said that while on the tour he catches We Came As Romans’ set every night. If you’ve ever experienced WCAR live then you know why.

The Texas boys of Crown the Empire ripped through a set that was pure mayhem. They raised the bar as the beginning of their set started out with circle pits which led into a wall of death all while crowdsurfers continued to make their way to the front.

Born of Osiris kicked off the night and even as openers the band has the force of a headlining band. They quickly heated things up with their ferocious set. To see all of these bands live on the ‘Break Down the Walls’ tour, go here for remaining dates.
