Courtney Love Trashes Dave Grohl Further in Explanation of Onstage Rant
We reported earlier that Courtney Love really went off the deep end during a Hole concert at the SWU festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil, over the weekend, stripping off her clothes and using the stage as a bully pulpit to rail against Foo Fighters frontman / former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl.
The onstage rant against Grohl started when a fan in the audience held up a picture of Love's late husband, Nirvana's Kurt Cobain. Love stormed offstage complaining about Grohl, only to return with this barb: “I don’t care what you listen to at home,” she told the crowd, referring to the Fighters and Grohl, “but if a guy takes off money off my kid’s table, f— him.”
So, what's that about? Is Love suggesting that Grohl is stealing from Frances Bean Cobain? Love tried to explain it in a post-concert interview, which you can watch in its entirety below. What Courtney seems to be getting at is that the money Grohl receives from Nirvana royalties should be going to Kurt's daughter, mom, sister and sister-in-law -- but honestly, her explanation really just leaves more questions than answers.
"I wasn't in Nirvana. However, I do own Nirvana ... with my daughter, and because of tax laws I have to give money to his sister, Kim Cobain, and [Kurt's mother] Wendy Cobain," she says.
"What I was saying is [that] Dave makes $5 million a [Foo Fighters] show, he doesn't need the money [from Nirvana] ... [so] why the f--- then does he have a Nirvana Inc. credit card and I don't? And last week he bought and Astin Martin on it," she continued.
Here's where she starts to lose us: "My sister-in-law [Kim Cobain] is homeless, she lives under the bridge that Kurt sang about. It p---es me off that my mother-in-law [Wendy Cobain] doesn't have a front door in the winter, her boiler doesn't work and she has black mold, and Dave bought an Aston Martin last week."
"Forget me, I make tons of money -- my daughter and Kim Cobain, Wendy Cobain and [Kurt's half-sister] Brianne Cobain is what I care about," she concludes. "You understand? So f--- Dave!"
Actually, we don't understand. If Kurt's sister is homeless and his mom lives in a moldy house without a proper front door, isn't Courtney is supposed to be paying them money from Nirvana's multi-million dollar estate. Doesn't that seem to suggest that Courtney, not Dave, is the one who should be giving them money? And what does it have to do with Grohl buying a $150,000 sports car?
