GWAR Unveil Dave Brockie Tribute Shirt To Raise Money for Foundation
The death of GWAR frontman Dave Brockie, the man who portrayed the lovable warmongering alien Oderus Urungus, shocked the metal community to its core. Following the GWAR mastermind’s passing, the Dave Brockie Foundation was launched, and now, GWAR have released a new memorial shirt to raise money for the foundation.
On March 23, Brockie was found dead in his Richmond, Va. home. No cause of death has been named as of this posting, but due to evidence reportedly found, the case is currently being handled as drug-related.
In a memorial video featuring GWAR musicians and members of the band’s Slave Pit family, the Dave Brockie Foundation was announced. The following statement was also released, explaining the foundation’s purpose:
The Dave Brockie Foundation is a charity fund with the mission of promoting the advancement of music, images, letters and performances in the arts. It will endeavor to encourage promising talents, as well as preserving the legacy of Dave’s body of works. It intends to be a support system to those who have dedicated their lives in pursuit of creativity. The Dave Brockie Foundation will be a resource for artists in the fields of music, film, literature and all visual arts who cannot find funding through mainstream channels. The Dave Brockie Foundation will also strive to catalog and preserve Dave’s vast collection of original images, recordings and written words, and make them available for the world to appreciate. The foundation’s first goal is to finance the creation of a memorial monument in Richmond, Virginia to provide the world with a place to pay respects to the memory of a very cherished man.
The new Dave Brockie shirt shows the frontman in his GWAR gear without his Oderus mask along with the vocalist’s lifespan of 1963 – 2014. The shirts are currently going for $20.
