Update: Joko Widodo was elected President of Indonesia in July 2014.

If you had to guess, which country do you think would have the most metal politician? Could it be England, arguably the birthplace of heavy metal? Nope. The musically rich countries of Sweden or Norway? Wrong. How about the good ol' USA? Not even close. The answer is Indonesia, with its current Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo.

Joko Widodo was elected as the Governor of Jakarta in 2012 and is even a Presidential hopeful in his home country for the nation's 2014 election. As a metalhead, Widodo is intensely dedicated. The 52-year-old Governor attended Metallica's Indonesian tour stop on Aug. 25 when the thrash legends invaded the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Widodo was even reported to have been thrusting his fists into the air right in the middle of a "sweat-soaked, headbanging crowd."

“I listen to loud metal songs, from Metallica to Led Zeppelin, to Napalm Death ... because rock is my passion,” Widodo told Indonesian news outlet AFP before attending the Metallica show. The Presidential contender reportedly has a reputation for being a man of the people. “He is different from other powerful figures who don’t care about ordinary people,” 32-year old Metallica concertgoer Rizqi Widyasari told AFP.

In other Joko Widodo metal news, Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo gifted the politician with signed bass guitar, which Widodo was forced to turn over to Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). "If they say I can't have it, so be it," stated Widodo. "I will return the guitar to the state." Widodo actually reported the bass to the KPK himself, just in case the bass violated a certain gifting policy held by the organization.
