Korn’s Brian ‘Head’ Welch Thanks Linkin Park for ‘Forgiveness, Understanding + Grace’ Over Reaction to Chester Bennington’s Death
The news of Chester Bennington's death in July hit many hard, but Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch received some backlash after his initial social media post expressing his dismay that Bennington had taken his own life and calling suicide "the cowardly way out." In the time since that initial post, Welch has repeatedly apologized for his words, stating that it came from a broken heart. Now, in a new post, Welch reveals that the members of Linkin Park have forgiven him for his words.
The guitarist says, "When I heard the news about our friend Chester Bennington I was so sad, hurt and angry. In my shock and confusion I didn’t know how to process my feelings correctly. I spoke out from a broken heart and I want to thank the LP camp, and all of my friends and fans for the forgiveness, understanding and grace that was extended to me. I am honored to celebrate Chester's life with our boys in LP, their fans, and many of my friends and colleagues in the music industry." The posting came with the concert bill promoting the upcoming Linkin Park show Oct. 27 at the Hollywood Bowl, as seen below.
Bennington died on July 20 and in the aftermath, the band launched a special site where fans could leave their personal tributes to the late singer. There have also been a wealth of tributes from the band's peers both onstage and offstage to Bennington, and fans have organized memorial gatherings around the world.
Earlier this summer, Linkin Park had promised a public tribute of some sort more than likely taking place in Los Angeles. This past week, the band delivered with the announcement that they would take the stage together for the first time since Bennington's death at the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 27. The band will be joined at the show by a number of Bennington's musical friends in the industry, with Head's Korn bandmate Jonathan Davis, the members of Blink-182, Bring Me the Horizon's Oli Sykes, Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows and Synyster Gates, System of a Down's Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan, Yellowcard's Ryan Key, Machine Gun Kelly and Kiiara among those set for the special event.
