In this Round 1 matchup to determine the Best Live Band in hard rock and metal, we're pitting Linkin Park against X Japan. Beyond extreme popularity in countries like the U.S. and Japan, these groups have become known as tremendous live acts.

Linkin Park are perhaps the most successful rock band to have broken in the 21st century. Playing arenas almost immediately after Hybrid Theory was released, Linkin Park got big gig experience very quickly, and thus, grew along with their success. With tons of modern classics at their disposal, Linkin Park bring an energy and enthusiasm rare in any circumstance.

X Japan are practically hailed as gods in Japan, and for good reason. If you've ever checked out a live performance of the band, you'll be blown away. While performing for tens of thousands of people, band leader / drummer / piano player Yoshiki throws caution to the wind like few are willing to do. Yoshiki has destroyed himself physically for the sake of the show, throwing himself into his drum kit and suffering neck and wrist injuries along the way.

So will you vote for Linkin Park or will X Japan earn your nod for the better live act? Let us know by voting in the poll below. You can vote once per hour through the deadline of Tuesday, July 14 at 10AM ET.
