No. 12: Mastodon, ‘Blood and Thunder’ – Top 21st Century Metal Songs

Relapse

‘I think that someone is trying to kill me!’ Mastodon are one of the definitive metal bands of the 2000s. Having formed in the year 2000, the quality of their music has remained incredibly strong from their 2001 EP, ‘Lifesblood’ to their latest fill-length, ‘The Hunter.’

Despite their wealth of material, the track that allowed the band to explode into modern legends is ‘Blood and Thunder.’ Released on the 2004 album ‘Leviathan’ and led by a colossal riff, ‘Blood and Thunder’ has become the band’s signature tune, despite the undiminished quality of their music since the release of the singular opus.
