Mastodon have the wheels in motion for their follow-up to 'The Hunter' album, but at least one of their forthcoming songs (and perhaps more) may have a more child-friendly slant that the rest of their material. That's because the group is reportedly working on music for the upcoming 'Monsters Inc.' prequel, 'Monsters University.'

The band revealed the news in a Facebook posting (which appears to have since been removed), as reported by Metal Injection. The movie itself is set 10 years prior to the hit Pixar film, which debuted back in 2001. It follows the story of Sulley and Mike as they attend school and plan their future careers. The movie is set for a June 21 release next summer.

Mastodon did not elaborate beyond the fact that they were "writing and recording a song for the new 'Monsters, Inc.' movie," but the timing appears to be right as Brent Hinds recently revealed that the group has already started writing and coming up with ideas for their next album.

The group has prior experience working in the animation field, penning the track 'Cut You With a Linoleum Knife' for the 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.' You can watch their 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force' contribution below.
