Metallica fans already frantic to catch their heroes talking about their upcoming 3D film at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego should brace themselves: The band will play a "surprise show" at a secret location after their panel discussion about the movie, 'Metallica Through the Never.'

As previously reported, the band will appear July 19 at Comic-Con to discuss the film, but now the band has also revealed that they will play a "surprise" gig, as well. Metallica broke the news about the concert via this post on their official website:

"We can't just TALK about the film when we are in San Diego... we want to play too! Following our chat in Hall H at Comic-Con, we'll be heading out to a super-secret spot to have some fun and hit the stage. Comic-Con attendees will have a chance to win tickets at the Hall H event and Met Club members should keep their eyes peeled here for more details about chances to win tickets too. Stay tuned!"

NYTimes.com reports that 500 free tickets will be distributed to the concert, a rarity at the popular annual sci-fi fan convention focusing on movies, TV and comic books. Comic-Con 2013 is being held July 18-21 at the San Diego Convention Center.

‘Metallica Through the Never’ will premiere Sept. 27 on IMAX, with a wide 3D release to follow on Oct. 4.
