This year, Metallica, Paul McCartney and Florence + the Machine will headline Lollapalooza. The event is set to take place from July 31 to Aug. 2 in Chicago’s Grant Park.

Metallica will be performing Aug. 1 and are pumped for the upcoming gig. “It's been nearly 20 years since we've been lucky enough to take the stage at Lollapalooza, so we are over the top that we've been asked to play this year at the now annual extravaganza held at Grant Park in Chicago. We'll be hitting the stage on Saturday, August 1st," the band writes.

Earlier this month, Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone that they hope to have some new material to play onstage in May during the Rock in Rio USA festival. So fans might be able to hear Metallica perform new songs in late July during their Lollapalooza set. As for the progress Metallica have made on their follow-up to 2008's Death Magnetic, Ulrich says they already have a lot of songs created for the upcoming disc and that the "creative elements are getting close to being done."

Three day passes for the fest are already sold-out, but single day tickets are still available. They go on-sale at Lollapalooza.com, starting at 10 A.M. local time today (March 25). Check out a full list the bands performing below.
