Mike Shinoda debuted his new song "Crossing a Line" with a little help from The Roots on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night (June 19). The performance marked the Linkin Park singer's solo TV debut.

Shinoda starts the song playing the piano and then grabs a mic to sing the cathartic song, which was inspired by the suicide of his friend and Linkin Park bandmate Chester Bennington. In the chorus of the song Shinoda sings: "They tell you I don't care anymore / And I hope you'll know its a lie / 'Cause I found what I've been waiting for / But to get there means crossing a line."

Later in the performance, Shinoda plays a melody of distorted chords on his Fender Stratocaster. Watch the performance in the player above and see Shinoda's note to Fallon for the hospitality in the tweet below.

"Crossing a Line" is featured on Shinoda's debut solo album Post-Traumatic, which is out now. The musician recently discussed the effort saying, “The experience of this last year has been crazy, and I wanted to put it into music, not only to just put my stamp on it and say, ‘This happened,’ but also to allow the fans and the people who have been along for the ride, to guide them on that journey in terms of keeping up with my narrative or understanding where I’m at.”

The future of Linkin Park is still very much up in the air. Back in January, Shinoda said the band has "every intention" of continuing on, but recently he said he didn't know if the band has a future. He added, "There aren't any answers to that at this point."

Mike Shinoda is currently on tour and takes the stage at the Gramercy Theater in New York City tonight. Check out all his tour dates here.
