Pantera / Hellyeah Drummer Vinnie Paul Plays ‘Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction?’

Subscribe to Loudwire on

We know you’ve been asking for this one for a long time and your patience has paid off! When legendary drummer Vinnie Paul (Pantera, Hellyeah, Damageplan, Rebel Meets Rebel) swung by our studio he was excited to dive into what was written about him and his bands on Wikipedia and he cleared up quite a bit of misinformation!

A lively storyteller, Vinnie Paul discussed the formation of Pantera, dating all the way back to 1981. Wikipedia had noted the band was first called Pantera’s Metal Magic, but, as we found out, this was not true and the drummer talked about the first two names the band had before landing on Pantera, which was suggested by a friend.

Of course, there’s the infamous story of the 1999 Stanley Cup winners the Dallas Stars, who celebrated their championship at Paul’s house. It was just a minor details that was incorrect on Wikipedia, but it lead to a detailed account of the debauchery that ensued that night, ultimately explaining how the Stanley Cup was damaged after being thrown from a great height.

Regarding Damageplan and their unreleased recordings, Vinnie Paul expressed a desire to release this material. The band had planned on releasing their sophomore record in 2005, but Dimebag Darrell was tragically slain in late 2004. There’s some special plans possibly in the works on how to release these recordings, but you’ll have to watch the video to find out!

Get the scoop on all these stories and more in the video at the top of the page as Vinnie Paul plays Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction?
