This Round 1 matchup in the competition to determine the best live band in hard rock and metal features two of rock's most enduring acts who have earned their stature in the music industry in part by knowing how to put on great live shows.

Coming along in the '90s, Pearl Jam quickly established themselves as one of the top concert draws going. While their songs sound great on record, the live show only enhances the material as the group is known for delivering some truly epic jams live. A truly stellar band of musicians, Pearl Jam have shown the ability to keep things fresh while providing fans with rocking performances often filled with "you had to be there" moments.

Meanwhile, there's nothing quite like a Red Hot Chili Peppers show. The veteran rockers are pure energy incarnate when it comes to playing live. The amazing rhythm section of Flea and Chad Smith show infinite funk and boundless energy, while singer Anthony Kiedis is hard to ignore with his stage presence and magnetism. Simply put, by the time the Chili Peppers have ended their set, there's probably not an inch of stage that hasn't gone untouched by their high energy performance.

But the question remains, who is the better live act? Vote for either Pearl Jam or Red Hot Chili Peppers in the poll provided. You can vote once per hour through the deadline of Tuesday, July 14 at 10AM ET.
