Seether are now in their fifth year of the Rise Above Fest, and the issue of suicide prevention is more important than ever, especially in the wake of losing two of rock’s most respected musicians to suicide in recent months. As such, this year’s festival was dedicated to the losses of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell and Linkin Park’s co-vocalist Chester Bennington.

The festival took place July 22 and 23 at Darling’s Waterfront in Bangor, Maine, with Korn headlining the first night and Shinedown leading the second day’s bill. Korn were joined on opening day by Stone Sour, festival organizers Seether, Skillet, Falling in Reverse, Red Sun Rising, Crobot, DragonForce, Cane Hill, Ded, Killer at Large and more. Meanwhile the Sunday bill had Shinedown supported by Halestorm, Theory of a Deadman, Hellyeah, All That Remains, Pop Evil, Starset, Avatar, Kyng, Black Map and others. Over 14,000 were expected to attend this year’s event.

The Rise Above Fest started as a way for Seether and their peers to help raise awareness for suicide prevention. Seether frontman Shaun Morgan penned the song “Rise Above This” after losing his brother to suicide and the song title factored into the name of the festival. During Seether’s set, Morgan dedicated “Rise Above This” to Bennington and Cornell.

All proceeds from the event went to SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education), one of the leading national non-profit organizations dedicated to raising awareness for suicide prevention. You can learn more and donate at this location.
