Queens of the Stone Age Deliver Dance-Filled ‘The Way You Used to Do’ Video

Wait til you see this deal, man! It’ll blow your mind. That’s the sentiment Josh Homme offers as the opening of Queens of the Stone Age‘s new video for “The Way You Used to Do” and the frontman does his best to deliver on that promise.

Simply put, Homme’s got plenty of swagger as he pulls back the curtain and joins his bandmates in an enclosed performance space, but the tight confines can’t hold back the energy produced by the undeniable swinging beat of the song that seems to have taken over the vocalist.

Homme conceived the video, which was shot by acclaimed director Jonas Akerlund, and features the singer moving from the initial rehearsal space into multiple sets, dealing with wardrobe changes and showcasing his moves amidst a number of dance routines.

The singer says, “It’s our way of paying tribute to Cab Calloway and the film Hellzapoppin’. I fully realize that may be a little more than some are open to, and that’s perfectly fine with me. There’s the door. If some of the more close-minded are gently pruned, that just leaves more room on the dance floor for the open-minded ones to get loose. That’s been the spirit of Queens Of The Stone Age and the space we’ve worked to create from day one.”

The video debuted today at Apple Music. You can see an extended preview of the video above, but you’ll have to visit Apple Music to get the full clip.

“The Way You Used to Do” is featured on Queens of the Stone Age’s Villains album. The Mark Ronson-produced disc is on target for an Aug. 25 release via Matador Records and is currently available for pre-order here. Look for the group on tour this fall in support of the album.
