Though Rise Against‘s Tim McIlrath has referred to ‘I Don’t Want to Be Here Anymore’ as one of the band’s more introspective songs, the band has still managed to put a politically motivated message into the track’s new video.

The powerful clip addresses violence both at home and around the world with some staggering statistics, personal testimonials by those affected by it and an ending quote from the great Martin Luther King, Jr.

The ‘I Don’t Want to Be Here Anymore’ video starts in the band’s home base of Chicago, with a pre-teen girl telling stories of gun violence taking place in her South Side neighborhood. But the clip goes beyond the borders of the Windy City, as Rise Against show statistics concerning the Mexican drug war, the Boko Haram kidnappings, Iraq’s growing militia and the increased poaching of elephant ivory being used to fund terrorist networks.

One of the most directly affective moments of the clip comes from a female voiceover that states, “It takes nine months to create a human being and it takes seconds for an AR-15 to take that away from the surface of this Earth.”

The clip ends with the Martin Luther King, Jr. quote, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”

‘I Don’t Want to Be Here Anymore’ is featured on Rise Against’s ‘The Black Market’ album. The disc is currently available at iTunes and Amazon.
