12 Fabulous Rock Stars in Drag
The genres of rock and metal are filled with barrel-chested he-men who exude their collective masculinity through loud music and leather pants. Now, take that mentality, put it in a dress, and you’ve got an hilarious yin and yang.
Skipping some obvious contenders such as Marilyn Manson and Dee Snider, we’ve painfully browsed through the archives of the Internet to find some of our favorite musicians in drag. Makeup, lingerie, formal dresses — we’ve got it all! Featuring members of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Slipknot and many more, we present to you 12 Fabulous Rock Stars in Drag:
Anthony Kiedis and Flea
Trashy? Perhaps. Fabulous? You betcha! If you happened to be in the South Central Los Angeles area the night this picture was taken, you may have driven by Red Hot Chili Peppers members Anthony Kiedis and Flea, simply writing them off as just another pair of tranny street walkers.
Many have been tricked by gap-toothed, slightly bulky woman with five-o-clock shadows walking the streets of Los Angeles, so we wouldn't be surprised if a few "frustrated" individuals pulled up to Flea asking, "How much for a party?" Not to take anything away from Kiedis, who looks smashing in his blue half-shirt and leather dress.
How'd you like to wake up to this after a drunken night? No, Machine Head's Robb Flynn wasn't a extra in 'Bridesmaids,' he threw on this salmon-colored spaghetti strap dress for the official 2013 Mayhem Festival prom!
Mayhem Fest actually gives each featured band a budget to throw one themed party sometime during the tour. Celebrating his 44th birthday, Flynn flaunted a special tiara, party beads, a double middle-finger necklace and some radiant sky blue eyeshadow. Line up, ladies!
Hot stuff coming through! Unbeknownst to most Slipknot fans, this was the look the band was considering before settling for masks and prison jumpsuits. Obviously, vocalist Corey Taylor is still somewhat attached to the concept, as evidenced in this photo of him in some sexy gartered lingerie.
This stunning virgin-white piece of silky stretch satin entwined with beautiful black lace is complemented tastefully by a matching white tutu. While looking at this photo, make sure your computer isn't resting on your lap, because an involuntary rush of blood could cause thousands of dollars worth of painfully embarrassing damage.
Iggy Pop has somehow possessed the ability to maintain his lean figure despite Father Time's many attempts to decompose the punk icon. It's actually strange to see any type of fabric covering Iggy's torso, but this formal dress is absolutely enchanting.
Accompanied by his bedazzling tote with a complex snakeskin pattern, the Godfather of Punk is embraced by a flowing satin gown. The dress wonderfully complements Iggy's deep blue/green eyes, further prolonging Iggy's divine anti-aging abilities.
McKagan makes hot pink look even hotter in this shiny number, completing the ensemble with a princess tiara and long, silver formal gloves. Every young lady dreams of walking down her parent's staircase as friends, family and her prom date gaze upwards at the descending beauty. McKagan may have never experienced that life-affirming moment, but damn it, let the man dream!
Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain was no stranger to women's clothing. The grunge icon was in drag onstage fairly regularly, likely acquiring a wardrobe which resembled the $4 dress rack at your local Salvation Army.
This colorful number, possibly borrowed from wife Courtney Love, is basically the female equivalent of the grunge garb Cobain most famously wore. Actually, what you see on Cobain isn't even a dress -- it's a full-body Yakuza gangster tattoo in progress. Luckily, at the time this picture was taken, Cobain still possessed all 10 of his fingers.
He may possess a girl's name, but Alice Cooper is all man. The shock rock pioneer kills people and allows monsters to run rampant onstage, all while singing about how drugs are bad and ice cream is good. With that in mind, here's a pic that'll make cookies and cream melt all over that cone of yours.
The leather-bound Cooper graces this photo with a pearl necklace, lace stockings and his signature riding crop. Cooper's face may not jump out at you right away, but his tastefully done makeup adds a dash of class to the cross-dressing image.
Maynard James Keenan
This may sound odd, but Maynard James Keenan actually looks pretty good here. (Awkward pause) In a kabuki kind of way, we mean. (Pause remains awkward) … never mind.
While performing with Tool in the past, Keenan would often take the stage while wearing makeup and wigs, not to mention those luscious melons contained within that bra of his. Maynard's fake tits almost fit him too well, sometimes acting as more of a distraction than Tool's phenomenally visual stage show. For all the ladies out there struggling to find that perfectly-fitting bra, check out some old Tool footage and take notes.
What we have here is a young Alexi Laiho donning a stunning piece of midriff lingerie. Note how Alexi's bra matches the color of his fingernails, wristband and belt -- the color connection indicates a naturally flawless fashion sense which not even Giorgio Armani could turn his nose up at.
Deep in conversation, Alexi seems very comfortable in his lingerie, which is incredibly important when transforming yourself into a young heartthrob. Next time you see Children of Bodom live, pretend that Alexi is wearing his beloved bra underneath whatever shirt he's got on, and confuse your friends with unexplained snorts and snickers.
Eddie Vedder and Dave Krusen
This picture was taken in 1991 during Pearl Jam's 'Ten' tour with the Smashing Pumpkins and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Vedder's stomach reads "Billy, I'm Yours" as a come-on to Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, while Krusen's tummy reads "I Luv James" as a declaration of everlasting commitment to Pumpkins guitarist James Iha.
