Sixx: A.M. have taken on their first cover song -- The Cars’ classic, ‘Drive.’ The sweeping ballad shows a different side of the band, showcasing singer James Michael’s soaring vocals and very tasteful guitar work from DJ Ashba. It will be featured on Sixx: A.M.’s third album ‘Modern Vintage,’ which will be released on Oct. 7 via Eleven Seven Music.

Michael talked about the band’s decision to finally cover a song in a new teaser video (seen below), stating, “It took us three records to do a cover song, but I’m so glad that we waited. And I’m so glad we chose to do the one we did.”

Bassist Nikki Sixx added, “I think it was an opportunity to cover a song that is so defined that you have to be very careful not to wreck it. That song is so loved by so many people, including us, that we really wanted to pay a real tribute to it, and I believe we have.”

The song marks the third taste the band has given fans off the upcoming album. Sixx: A.M. have previously released ‘Stars' and ‘Gotta Get It Right’ off the effort.

‘Modern Vintage’ is available for pre-order now at iTunes and Amazon. As mentioned, the effort will arrive on Oct. 7. Click here for complete album track listing.

Meanwhile, Nikki Sixx’s other band Motley Crue are currently out on their 'Final Tour' with Alice Cooper. They take the stage in Wantagh, N.Y. on Friday (Aug. 29) and the tour wraps in Spokane, Wash. on Nov. 22. Click here for complete tour dates.
