Family can play a big role in the lives of musicians, and Skillet have made their music careers a family affair. Singer John Cooper is joined in the band by his wife Korey Cooper and the couple have raised their family while living the life of a touring group. During a chat with Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez, John Cooper spoke about what it's like raising your kids while on tour.

"I won't lie. It is hard work," admits the vocalist, who reveals that the couple have had to navigate what it means to be a rock star and what it means to be a parent. "You want to be a good rock star, but you want to be a good father, hopefully, and a good husband before," says Cooper. "So I just tell people I'm going to be the most boring rock star ever. We go to bed cause my kids are up at 6AM and they're on their way to school on the bus at 8, and we do interviews and we write music."

While Skillet make no secret of their Christian faith, Cooper feels it's important that his children are introduced to all kinds of people from different walks of life. Not only do they meet some of the musicians that the band has toured with, but Cooper says they also get exposure to different cultures, citing an example of the kids joining them for six trips to Europe. Cooper beams about one particular experience on the road with his daughter playing Barbies with In This Moment's Maria Brink.

He adds, "I think all of us humans have a lot more in common than we do that separate us. So there's no reason to worry about the way people look or tattoos or their color of skin, their religion, their politics ... we really need to get over that stuff. We're all in this together and we're gonna make it or we're gonna lose it together."

As for being a family man while on tour with some harder partying acts, Cooper says that there seems to be a mutual respect amongst the bands they've toured with, with their fellow rockers always being mindful of the children. "It's camaraderie and we would treat them the same way too," says Cooper.
