With their new self-titled album coming out tomorrow (Sept. 13), its shaping up to be a busy week for Staind!

Amidst all the excitement, guitarist Mike Mushok recently called in to Albany, N.Y.’s  Q103 to talk about the new album, guitar solos and the future drummer of Staind.

With their new single ‘Not Again’ currently climbing its way up the rock charts, Q103’s Jeff Mrozek asked Mushok if he was playing both shredding guitar solos that are featured on the song. “Yes, that’s all me. That was actually just improvised when we demoed the song and I had to go back and relearn it," admits Mushok. "I wrote something else for the song and [producer] Johnny K said he liked what we had recorded so I had to relearn it and that’s what ya got!”

Mrozek also asked Mushok about the status of the drummer position since the untimely departure of Jon Wysocki from the band. “Sal Gancarelli has worked with the band for a bunch of years, he’s our drummer,” Mushok told Mrozek. As far as being a permanent fixture in the band, that’s still up in the air. “Sal’s filled in before, he’s a great drummer, and fully capable. We’ve talked about doing auditions for a new drummer, I’m not sure if we’ll get to that point," Mushok concedes. "Right now we didn’t have the time; we knew Sal could handle the gig, so he’s doing it for us.”

As previously reported, the band is planning a very special Sept. 15 release show at the Best Buy Theater in New York City with all proceeds to benefit the families of 9/11 victims. “We’re going to go there and play a bunch of new songs, a bunch of old songs, and all proceeds will go to a really good cause,” tells Mushok.

Tickets are available for the low price of $9.11, so take this opportunity to rock out with Staind for a worthy cause!
