Godsmack have a couple of projects in the works for 2012, one of which is an EP where the band covers songs that inspired them over the years. According to frontman Sully Erna, we may hear the new covers very soon.

While gearing up for their co-headlining spot on the Mass Chaos tour with Staind, Godsmack have been busy with a number of things -- mixing a live album, recording a covers EP, and Erna has been recovering from knee surgery. Sully told 'That Metal Show' that they also are planning some sort of "special retail piece," which may be related to one of the aforementioned projects.

Despite having their plate relatively full, Erna revealed via Twitter that the EP of covers is almost ready for mass consumption. "Been in the studio last 3 weeks. Today is last day of mixing the covers EP we're working on for you. I think you're gonna love this!" Erna boasted of the project before revealing their unusual release strategy, "I want to suggest to management when they're all ready to hear we throw them up on line and let all of you decide which one is best 4 radio."

Godsmack will hit the road with Staind and Halestorm for the Mass Chaos tour, which kicks of it's 20-date trek this April at Augusta, Georgia's James Brown Arena.
