The No. 1 tune on our list of the Top 50 Hard Rock Songs of the 21st Century is ... (drumroll) ... System of a Down's 'Chop Suey!'

System of a Down made an impressive impact on the rock scene with their 1998 self-titled debut album, but they entered a whole new stratosphere with 2001's 'Toxicity.' And the song that introduced 'Toxicity' to the masses was the epic first single 'Chop Suey!'

Rock radio likely didn't know what hit it when 'Chop Suey!' hit the airwaves, yet the song resonated loudly with music fans. Combining hyperactive verses and a haunting operatic chorus, 'Chop Suey!' was the most original song to be embraced by the mainstream in several years. The tune helped propel 'Toxicity' to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard chart after its first week of release.

We recently caught up with SOAD singer Serj Tankian, and he reflected on 'Chop Suey!,' saying, 'That was our first single off 'Toxicity' and I remember making the video for it in Hollywood at this hotel. That video is so funny when I look back right now, just sitting down with people eating chop suey. It's a very, schizophrenic song, like it's the last song you would ever expect to be on the radio at the time that it was [released], but it had this beautiful chorus that people related to."
