Pantera vs. Korn – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Quarterfinals
There may be no more testosterone-fueled pairing in our 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl than this one. On one hand you've got the in-your-face aggression of Pantera versus the all-out brutality of Drowning Pool, and you get to determine which band's track gets you more fired up for football.
Pantera / Down singer Phil Anselmo fans will get a taste of his solo material Tuesday, Jan. 8, with the release of the split EP titled 'War of the Gargantuas' with Warbeast. But, Anselmo says that his two songs on the split are not in the same vein as his upcoming solo album.
As one of metal's most aggressive vocalists in history, it's no surprise to learn that Pantera / Down vocalist Philip Anselmo is a huge fan of boxing. Surely tracks such as 'F---ing Hostile' and 'Mouth for War' have inspired many fists to bust through walls, along with faces, so Boxing Insider welcomed Anselmo for an exclusive interview, but here's the catch: Philip Anselmo was brought in to conduct an interview with yet another musician and boxing fan … rapper 50 Cent.
It's been eight years since the tragic onstage murder of Pantera / Damageplan guitar legend 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott, but the utter outpouring of love, respect and the desire to memorialize the man has not diminished one iota. Among those who honored Dimebag's legacy this year are Robb Flynn and the rest of Machine Head.
One of the most discussed topics of 2012 has been a possible Pantera reunion with Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde filling the spot of the late 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott. Throughout the past year, drummer Vinnie Paul and singer Phil Anselmo have addressed the subject, as has Zakk Wylde, who has publicly stated it would be an honor if he was asked to take part in a Pantera reunion.
Now, in what may come as a disappointment to some fans, Vinnie Paul no states that he has "no interest" in reuniting with his former bandmates.
Zakk Wylde's name has come up more than a few times this year as a fill-in for a potential Pantera reunion, but before that could ever happen, the remaining members would have to determine if a reunion without the full original lineup is in their best interest. Wylde tells Brave Words that Pantera getting back together after the death of Dimebag Darrell is similar to what Led Zeppelin had to consider when offers continued to flood in after the loss of John Bonham.
There have been several stories over the past year on the topic of Zakk Wylde filling in for the late Dimebag Darrell should Pantera ever decide to reunite for shows, but singer Phil Anselmo says comments he made to that effect were taken out of context.
Get Slayer's Kerry King and Anthrax's Scott Ian in front of a camera together, and all you have to do is get out of the way while two hard rock legends talk -- which is exactly what the producers at Fuse.tv did recently when King and Ian arrived in the studio to discuss their recent Metal Masters 4 concert.
